About

C. S. LEWIS

C. S. Lewis was a British writer. He is popular for his works of fiction, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy.

Lewis’s works, particularly The Chronicles of Narnia, has influenced works like Daniel Handler’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl, Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, and J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter.

Lewis has been the subject of several biographies including those written by close friends, such as Roger Lancelyn Green and George Sayer. In 1985, William Nicholson wrote a screenplay Shadowland which dramatised Lewis’s life and relationship with Joy Davidman Gresham.

In 1993, the screenplay was made into a feature film Shadowlands starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.

Live-action film adaptations have been made of three books in The Chronicles of Narnia series, namely The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005), Prince Caspian (2008) and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010).

There are many C.S. Lewis societies around the world, including one which was founded in Oxford in 1982. In 2008, on their list of “The 50 greatest British writers since 1945”, The Times ranked Lewis eleventh.
